Google has announced via a blog entry that all of its Android Wear smartwatch models will soon receive a bunch of new features. Android Wear already supports features like voice voice actions and gestures. Wrist gestures allow users to “flick” their wrist around to navigate their watch in addition to swiping on the touchscreen.
With today’s update, your Android Wear is receiving new gestures to help you navigate your smartwatch. Now you can also expand a card, bring up your apps, or return home to your watch face with a just push, lift or shake of your watch. No need to pull out your phone in middle of something.
Along with new gestures, Android Wear will also let you use your voice to send messages from major messanging apps like Hangouts, Nextplus, Telegram, Viber, WeChat, and WhatsApp. For example, you can send someone a message by just saying “OK Google, Send a WhatsApp message to Parvez: I’ll see you soon.” Following this voice command, your watch will drop me a WhatsApp message.
New voice commands will come handy in addition to asking your watch questions and receiving answers using your voice.
The third major update Android Wear receiving is the ability to make calls and listen to messages with speaker support. You can now place or receive calls over Bluetooth and listen to your messages with apps like Glide. To be able to do so, you will need a watch with speaker, which includes the Huawei Watch and the ASUS ZenWatch 2 (49mm) smartwatches at the moment.
You’re walking to meet a friend with coffee in hand. Or maybe it’s really cold outside, so you’re rocking a pair of mittens. Or maybe you’re in the middle of making dinner. There are plenty of times when you’ve got your hands full but still need to stay on top of reminders, messages, and calls. That’s why Android Wear includes things like voice actions and gestures. And today we’re expanding these hands-free options in a number of ways.
All these impvoments will make their way to all Android Wear watches over the next few weeks, including new watches like the Casio Smart Outdoor Watch and Huawei Watch for Ladies.
