This New App from Microsoft Will Unlock Windows 10 PCs Over Bluetooth

Microsoft is looking for new ways to make Windows 10 more personal, user-friendly and secure at the same time. One of the similar features is Windows Hello which allows a user to login with his/her face, iris, or fingerprint -without entering a password.

Now it seems Microsoft is planning to take this experience to a new level. Microsoft has developed a new app called Phone Sign-in which will let users unlock their Windows 10 PCs over Bluetooth. Phone Sign-in app which is under internal beta testing at the moment, will allow a nearby PC to be unlocked via a single tap on the phone screen.

Users will need to perform a quick setup (pair/sync) over Bluetooth to be able to use the unlock feature. After setting up, users can open the Phone Sign-in app on their phone and simply tap on a nearby Windows 10 device to unlock it. The app will be able to unlock only paired devices, of course.

Phone Sign-in Beta Windows Store

The description of Phone Sign-in app in Windows Store hints at more features in upcoming versions. “Future versions of Phone Sign-in will include support for Microsoft account, a sign-in solution for browsers and VPN, one-time passcode generation, and MFA approval through notifications.” -states the description.

At this moment, Phone Sign-in Beta app is only available under Windows Store. We should expect iOS and Android versions to follow too. When? It still remains a question.
